maddy *little miss thang [PREVIEW]

i'm literally about to fall asleep on my desk, but i had to edit a few pictures from the portrait session i did today. more of this little diva will arrive on the blog tomorrow afternoon, but here's a little somethin to tide you over until then ;)

this one was for maddy's daddy - her mama said he was gonna pay more attention to the truck than her haha somehow i doubt that very seriously!

this is one of my favorites!! the next shot in the series has maddy in focus, but this makes it a little more mysterious...

SO EXCITED to share more of these tomorrow. night ya'll!

conner *little monster

if you know me, you know that i love spending time with children. so when one of my favorite cousins (katie!!!) announced that she and jp were pregnant i was BEYOND excited. seriously, she is amazing (good job jp) and so much fun and just a joy. she also really likes photography so when she wanted to take baby pictures of conner she invited me over to snap a few pictures too... THANK YOU KATIE. not only did she let me move her furniture around to find good lighting, she had TONS of cute little outfits and ideas for pictures with conner.

these first two pictures are from her baby shower back in march, but i decided to include them here because technically conner is in these pictures too :) enjoy!

so pretty.

hereeeeee's conner! this outfit belonged to his daddy and there is a picture of jp in this little sailor suite with this same blanket! katie's plan was to surprise jp on his first father's day with a picture of conner in the same outfit!

such a little model.
p.r.e.c.i.o.u.s.
oh i just ADORE this one. he's saying 'i know i'm cute, so i'll give you a little smile'

this bear is made from one of paw-paw's work shirts. if he could see his great grandson he'd be so proud!

another 'model face' shot :)

FAVORITE PART OF THE DAY: when katie brought out this little jewel. it was a monster halloween costume that one of her co-worker's had. since conner's nursery theme is 'cute monsters' this was absolutely perfect!!

the majority of these monsters were crochetted by someone (i can't remember who - sorry!!) in katie's family. so talented!

loved the feet

and then jp got home and we made him participate too :)

conner was getting fussy by this point (i can't really say that i blame him... we took a lot of pictures) so he looks kindof miffed in this one, but his eyes are so blue! so i had to share

since he's in the family, you can expect to see this little guy A LOT in the future. good thing he's cute ;)

jess *track jumper extraordinaire

i met jess when we cheered together freshman year of college and it was love at first sight. we started hanging out and quickly formed a friendship that is still going strong. she's one of those people that even when you haven't talked to her in a few weeks you can see her and it's so easy to catch up and pick right back up. last summer she tried to teach me how to flirt (i'm pretty sure that's the night she met her (now) boyfriend tony, who is coming home today!!!) so god bless her for that. this session was a TON of fun.

fun fact: while we were snapping pictures, the police drove by. 20 minutes later he came back to check on us. we were most definitely trespassing... good thing jess is pretty :)

jess doesn't have bad angles. because if this one didn't make her look awkward i don't know what would haha

oh hey. green eyes.
gah! love this:

model face

so casual. so beautiful.

oh you know... just hangin out in a field... the county dump was right across the street so folks kept driving by really slowly and honking their horns

this is fuzzy, BUT it's probably my favorite photo from the entire session. this is jess.

happy wedensday :)

i need to be held accountable...

i just got back from NoVA (northern virginia - i know - it's weird) a few hours ago and i am INCREDIBLY tired. HOWEVER - i'm also incredibly MOTIVATED! (yeah - caps were totally necessary for that). so, i'm compiling a list of things i'm going to do this week (and probably next? it's already basically wednesday...), and since i need to be held accountable, i'm going to start blogging my most pressing tasks so that maybe i stop putting things off (i can't take credit for this idea, the talented katelyn of katelyn james photography does this monthly! - ps you are not allowed to compare my photographs of hers because i look like a kindergartener with a polaroid compared to her amazingness)

- workflow, workflow, workflow
- pool time with danny. this is very important.
- edit business plan and financial projections with new info
- revise portrait contract
- finish a super cool photo project (don't worry - i'll share my secrets as soon as it's complete!) and then blog about it
- blog about Conner (SO STINKIN CUTE)
- update resume (officially a small business owner say whaaa?!!?!)
- finish editing Jess' pictures (and blog)
- contact folks about using their property to shoot on
- thursday portrait session
- clean my room
- find someone who will let me second shoot a wedding
- look into getting a NEW COMPUTERRRR that's good for editing

these aren't in any particular order, but they all need to get did. and i'm pretty sure there are about 30 other 'to-dos' that should be on my list that i just can't think of right now.

i'm also gonna start a few 'installments' on the blog SUCH AS... 'fun friday' when i do a fun fotography (see what i did there?!) project *not every friday, but some. and random 'things i love' posts. kindof SERIOUSLY JAZZED about these.

i'll leave you with this: a picture of me and my sister (kristen) that we took one day when i was taking her back to school. i made her stand there while i set up the tripod and played with settings and then i said 'pretend like you like me!' i miss her. a lot. *this TOTALLY counts as my first 'things i love' post.

thank you :)

hey ya'll! this week my little brother is gone, so the house is eerily quiet... i've been filling the silence by submitting applications, snuggling up with summer reading (legal/tax mess about owning a small business, who needs it. oh wait - i do) and getting myself organized. as i was going through the bajillions of pictures i have on my external hard drive and making a valiant effort to put pictures in folders that actually made sense, i inadvertently found myself perusing and remembering all of the wonderful people i'm no longer with at william and mary.

so many folks helped me out when i was just getting started with this whole photography gig. they agreed to wear ridiculous things and let me drag them all around williamsburg. i basically forced them to hang out with me and let me take pictures of them while i was trying to figure out how to REALLY use my camera. this post is for ya'll: thank you.

gabby agreed to dress up and wear fairy wings. gotta love her.

pourin' on the HOT SAUCE. get it gurl.

kate (one of my recent TRIBE seniors) HATES feet. yet, she allowed me to photograph hers. that's love ya'll <3 these were taken while i was figuring out shutter speed. i think i asked kate to jump in this puddle about 20 times before i was satisfied with one of my shots... i can't say thank you enough!

terri was gracious enough to let me photograph her, but she also had to photograph me... the only words i can offer you for that terri: i'm so so sooooo sorry.

adrienne, one of my portrait portfolio subjects, is a natural beauty - not to mention tons of fun! thank you for trespassing, dancing, laughing and standing 4 feet from a moving train with me!

john enjoyed this shoot as much as i did - he likes his glamour shots ;) this first picture is one of my most favoritest pictures i've ever taken.

and i need to say that this next one has a story to go with it: i was knee deep in FREEZING cold water, couldn't feel my feet, and wearing only leggings and a long sleeve shirt because i didn't want my jeans or coat to get wet. so this picture also holds a special place in my heart :)

zara is precious and these pictures don't do her justice. but i love her. fun fact: there was a parade going on the day we took these pictures and people were STARING at us. fun fact #2: zara agreed to wear a tutu, black tights and my black hooter's shorts when it was FREEZING outside. needless to say - she put up with a lot that day and i don't know how she did it.

mel was also one of my TRIBE seniors and i just can't get enough of her. she tromped around campus with me while i hauled a huge bag of books to set up for the second shot. she is such a good sport :)

oh michael - how i love you. thank you for being a guinea pig while i figured out how to pose boys (since i was more accustomed to dealing with girls... i seriously struggle with figuring out how to take pictures of guys)
ps - i like your smile. and eyes.

these next few were taken when i was experimenting with shutter speed - thank you for being SUCH good sports about running around! brittany, stacy, hebbs and kate made this experiment incredibly enjoyable! someone said that if i had friends who were willing to do this for me then i had picked the right friends - i couldn't agree more. thank you!

this was my failed attempt at 'panning' - thanks for running around for me miss stacy :)

love, love, LOVE these ladies.

again, thanks ya'll. hope you're all doin well and having a fabulous time being amazing.

TRIBE seniors

the college of william and mary was established in 1693 and is the second oldest university in the nation. it's referred to as 'the public ivy' and boasts alumni including thomas jefferson (teej), james monroe, john tyler, u.s. supreme court chief justice john marshall, and 16 signers of the declaration of independence (get. like. us.).

but really, the college is so much more than random facts and statistics. in actuality, it's the people who trip over those uneven bricks every day that make william and mary the influential, dynamic, beautiful, life-altering place that it is. this post is dedicated to those folks. more specifically, the graduates of william and mary's class of 2011.
go play in traffic kids ;)
~

kate/barns/barnacles/barney: other than your minor character flaw which makes you think you are the one with the correct spelling of 'CAITLIN' you're absolutely, hands down, one of the most fabulous people i've ever had the pleasure of knowing. i love you. these pictures don't do you justice, but i've gotta post something...
just kate and teej. hangin out. basically besties.

ok - i realize this isn't kate but i ADORE this man (her dad). <3 you papa barns!

loved of old

just chillin by the wren in my cap and gown. nbd.

not all of these women are seniors, but they are definitely all PHENOMENAL. the ladies of the Delta Sigma Theta sorority asked me to do a photo shoot for them before the Spring '09 sorors graduated. this was one of the most enjoyable sessions i've ever done! thank you ladies!

spring '09 - g.r.i.t.

LOVED their colors
the ladies with their letters
~

melanie/mel-dawg/meranie/mel: alright fellas, start linin' up - not only does she look good in pictures, but she is basically a genius, funny and can sing too. she is also an avid baker and pursuing her masters in mathematics (i told you she was smart). slash, she's SO much fun to be around. i couldn't stop smiling while i was taking her pictures! genuinely one of the sweetest girls i know, she has a heart of gold and a smile to match. meranie, you will always hold a special place in my heart. best of luck!

lurve.

personal favorite.
william and mary's new poster child? i think so.
she's just so attractive!!!
~

ravali/rav/ravalava: she's stunning. and hysterical. we discussed 'smizing' a lot (thanks tyra) and she's ready for the next season of antm. eat your heart out williamsburg.

UM HI. you're pretty.

definite smizing going on here. love. it.

<3

thank ya'll for making william and mary the incredible place that it is.
go tribe - and hark upon the gale!
